What does an Umrah cost?
The price varies a lot by season, country of departure and how close to the Haram you sleep. Below is where the money goes, so you can judge an offer instead of only comparing the total.
Where the money goes
Roughly four items: the flight, the visa, the hotel and local transport. The hotel is almost always the largest and most variable item: a hundred metres further from the Haram often makes a bigger difference than the airfare. With a package price, always ask what is included.
Why the price swings so much
Ramadan and school holidays are the most expensive; the weeks right after are often the cheapest. Your country of departure matters a lot too, because then the flight is the biggest item. Booking far ahead mostly buys certainty, not always a lower price.
What to watch for in an offer
Check whether the visa, meals and airport transfers are included, and how many people share a room. Ask for the name of the hotel, not the number of stars. And look at the distance to the Haram in metres, not in minutes of walking time.
