How do you perform the Umrah?

The Umrah has four steps: (1) entering ihram with the intention and the Talbiyah, (2) tawaf: seven circuits around the Kaaba, (3) sa’i: seven times between Safa and Marwa, (4) halq or taqsir: shaving or trimming the hair.

How long does an Umrah take?

Usually three to four hours. Tawaf and sa’i each take about two hours, depending on the crowds, your pace and the breaks you take.

What is the difference between Umrah and Hajj?

The Umrah can be performed all year round and has four steps. The Hajj is tied to fixed days in the month of Dhul-Hijjah, lasts several days and includes extra rites such as Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina.

How many circuits do you walk in the tawaf?

Seven circuits anticlockwise, with the Kaaba on your left. You begin and end at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad).

What do you wear during ihram?

Men wear two unstitched white cloths (izaar and ridaa) with the head uncovered. Women wear ordinary modest clothing; a face veil and gloves are not permitted during ihram. Perfume is forbidden for both.

Is Umrah during Ramadan special?

Yes. According to a narration from the Prophet ﷺ, an Umrah in Ramadan equals the reward of a Hajj.

Which data do we collect?

Account: if you sign in, we store your email address and name so that we can manage your account.
Usage statistics: only with your consent do we measure how the site is used: pages visited, clicks, scroll depth, your browser type, your screen size and the country we infer from your connection. You may refuse without losing the site.
Donations: when you donate, our payment provider processes your payment details. We only see the amount, the status and, if you provide them, your name and email address. We never store your card or bank details.
Newsletter: only your email address, and only if you sign up.
Improvement reports: your message and the page you sent it from. You may add your email address if you would like a reply, but it is not required — you can report anonymously. If you do give it, we use it only to reply to this report and never add you to a mailing list.
AI assistant: the text of your question goes to Google to generate an answer. Do not include details you would rather not share.

Cookies

We place necessary cookies to make the site work, such as your language choice and your sign-in session. We only place analytics cookies with your consent, which we ask for through the cookie notice at the bottom of the site. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the saved preferences in your browser.

How long do we keep data?

We keep account data for as long as your account exists. We keep usage statistics no longer than is needed to improve the site. We keep donation data for as long as the law requires for our records. We keep improvement reports for as long as they help us check and improve the content; if you ask us to delete yours, we remove your report and your email address.

Who processes your data?

We work with a small number of parties needed to run the site: Google (hosting, database and the AI assistant), Stripe (payments) and Resend (email). They process your data solely on our instructions.

Transfers outside the EU

Some of these parties process data in the United States. This takes place under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

We do not sell your data. We only share it with the parties needed to run the site, such as our hosting provider and the payment provider, and only for that purpose.
